The first ARY Film Awards were held last night on a very hot night in Karachi and the red carpet rocked with some of the hottest fashion week outfits.

Most of the glitterati had opted for updos, a wise choice because the heat and humidity flattened the best hair in under ten minutes. The A-listers were in some of Pakistan's best red carpet designers including HSY, Elan, Shehla Chatoor, Deepak Perwani, Sania Maskatiya and Nomi Ansari.

The rest of the crowd opted for a mix of shaadi-type wear and non-descript clothing, with the odd trendy outfit in between. The hoi polloi at fashion events dress much better. By the way, the filmy crowd run even later than the fashion crowd - people were still arriving on the red carpet at 10:30 pm (the card said red carpet 6-8 pm, show 8 pm)! Still the ARY Awards were a great way to celebrate the Pakistani Cinema renaissance. Films like Waar, Zinda Bhag and Main Hoon Shahid Afridi deserved a glam awards event.
